VERSAILLES – On Monday, November 18th, Versailles FFA held their monthly meeting, and 55 first-year members received their Greenhand FFA Degree. Versailles FFA also awarded Rusty and Carey Reese the honorary Greenhand FFA Degree in memory of the late Wyatt Reese who was scheduled to be a new Greenhand FFA member at the start of school. The Versailles FFA also awarded the Reese family a FFA emblem pillow in loving memory of Wyatt.
In addition at the meeting Versailles FFA Chapter recognized Ken Moorman for his years of service to Versailles Schools and presented Ken with a retirement gift as a thank you for his support and help towards the Versailles FFA. Anna Moeller, the Ohio FFA State President gave an inspirational message to the greehands and guests in attendance.
To be eligible for the FFA Greenhand Degree members must meet the following requirement qualifications: be in their first year of agriculture education, know the FFA creed and motto, understand the code of ethics, know how to properly wear the FFA jacket, know the meaning of the FFA emblem and colors, know about the organizations history and have a plan for their SAE. In addition to the ceremony, several Versailles FFA members recited the FFA creed as part of the ceremony they included: Lydia Breeze, Elizabeth Grieshop, Blair Schellhase, Blake Pitsenbarger, and Cecilia Schmitmeyer. The meeting ended with pumpkin desserts, apples and caramel, and cider that was served.

VERSAILLES – Congratulations to the Versailles FFA members who competed in the District 5 FFA Parliamentary Procedure Contest on Thursday, November 21st at Anna High School. As part of the Parliamentary Procedure contest, each team, consisting of six to eight members, was responsible for completing a 12 to 15-minute demonstration of parliamentary procedure that included using different abilities and motions. Each student also took a test that assessed their knowledge of rules of order related to parliamentary procedure.
The Versailles FFA varsity parliamentary procedure team finished 2nd overall in District 5 and will advance to the state contest on December 14th. The team consisted of President Colin Batten, Secretary Monica Evers and members Hank Smith, Jayna Luthman, Eden and Liam Barga. This is the first time in the past 20-plus years for Versailles FFA to qualify for the State FFA Parliamentary Procedure Contest. In addition, congratulations to Miss Bergman for coaching the team.
Versailles FFA also competed in the Novice parliamentary procedure contest with a team of all 8th-grade Versailles FFA members. Congratulations to the 8th grade FFA members who placed 1st in the District 5 Novice Parliamentary Procedure contest at Anna High School on Nov 21st. The novice team will advance to state which is the first time in 15-plus years that Versailles FFA has had a team advance to the state contest. The 1st place team consisted of President Abby Wilker, Vice President Blair Schellhase, Secretary Elizabeth Grieshop, Treasurer Blake Pitsenbarger, Reporter Isabel Grisez, Sentinel- Kacey Borchers, Student Advisor- Allison Bergma and Member Russell Winner. Congratulations to Miss Bergman for coaching this team on the state. Congratulations to all and good luck at state.

VERSAILLES – At the November meeting for the Versailles FFA first-year members received their Greenhand FFA Degree. Rusty and Carey Reese were awarded the Honorary Greenhand FFA Degree in memory of the late Wyatt Reese. Versailles FFA also recognized Ken Moorman for his upcoming retirement.
Versailles FFA named two FFA members of the month for November. Nick Gehret is a Senior and a 5th-year member of Versailles FFA. Nick is active in monthly meetings, he shows at the Darke County Fair, helps with the soup and sandwich social, fruit sales, the beef and pork tent, farm day, corn growing contest and more. He has participated in the poultry evaluation CDE and the agronomy CDE. He has also attended the National FFA Convention and State FFA Convention and earned his State FFA Degree. His SAE is a job placement at Bensman Welding and Poultry. Congratulations to Versailles FFA member Nick Gehret for being named the November member of the month. Nick is the son of Brian and Cheryl Gehret. Nick was awarded a t-shirt and certificate for being named a member of the month. Congratulations Nick!
Cale DeMange was named Versailles FFA Member of the Month for November. Cale is a Sophomore and 3rd year Versailles FFA member. Cale is active in monthly meetings and has helped with farm day, fruit sales, penny war, omelet breakfast, canned food drive, and the veterans dinner. He has competed in the Wildlife CDE and Novice Parliamentary Procedure. Congratulations to November Versailles FFA Member of the Month for November, Cale DeMange SAE for job placement during the summer at AL Smith Trucking. Cale is the son of Jake and Alyssa DeMange. Cale was awarded a t-shirt and certificate for being named a member of the month. Congratulations Cale.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Arcanum MVCTC FFA attended the 97th National FFA Convention which was held in Indianapolis Indiana October 23-26. This year’s convention was attended by more than 74,000 FFA members, teachers, and guests from across the country.
The four-day convention included Powerful Speakers, National Agricultural Career Show, National Officer Retiring Addresses, Award Presentations and the installation of six newly elected National Officers. Convention activities included attending several convention sessions where members were inspired by motivational speakers such as the 2023-24 National FFA Officers and keynote speaker Temple Grandin.
Attendees enjoyed touring the National FFA Center and the Abbott’s Candies during the trip. In between a busy convention schedule, students were able to attend the Annual FFA National Career Show at the Indiana Convention Center. The career show hosted more than 400 booths from a variety of colleges, agricultural-related companies, fundraising organizations, U.S. Armed Services and auto and truck manufacturers.
Arcanum FFA Graduates Landon Haney, Tyler Huber, Nick Sharritts, and Carson Tegtmeyer received the American FFA Degree. The American FFA Degree is the highest degree awarded by the National FFA Organization and recognizes members’ ability to demonstrate leadership abilities and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, processing, and service programs. Landon, Tyler, Nick and Carson received a gold American FFA Degree key and a certificate to commemorate the achievement.
The highlight of the trip was American Degree Recipient Landon Haney being named the American Star in Agribusiness. The American Star Awards represent the best of the best among thousands of American FFA Degree recipients. The award recognizes FFA members who have developed outstanding agricultural skills and competencies by completing a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). An SAE is a required activity in FFA and allows members to learn by doing. Members can own and operate an agricultural business, intern at an agricultural business, or conduct an agriculture-based scientific experiment and report the results.

VERSAILLES – On Thursday, the Versailles FFA hosted a dinner at the school for Veterans in the surrounding area. The program honored active duty military as well as veterans who were in attendance as well as deceased.
To start off the night, those in attendance enjoyed a meal that consisted of BBQ pork and shredded chicken sandwiches, Amish noodles, chili soup, salad and various desserts. Also as part of the meal, the guests enjoyed hydroponics lettuce that was grown by the Greenhouse Management Classes, and cookies from the Versailles Family Consumer Sciences Classes. During the meal, everyone had the opportunity to look at a table set up for POW (Prisoners of War). This table was set for one and had many objects that represented the hardships and bitterness of being lost at war. After the meal, the veterans enjoyed listening to a poem recited by Rhyland Broerman and Eden Barga.
After the poem, the guests enjoyed entertainment from Tiger Tunes, Amplified, and a guest speaker, Representative Angie King, who is a part of the Ohio State House of Representatives. A special thank you to Tiger Tunes and Erin Rismiller director of the Tiger Tunes and Amplified and Mason DeMange director of Amplified for sharing their time and talents with the Veterans.
Then both active military members and veterans were honored with a slideshow. Active military duty and all Veterans were also given patriotic horseshoe stars made by the Versailles Ad Ed Mechanical Principle classes, a single rose designed by the Greenhouse Management class, thank you notes from Versailles High School students and coloring pages from Versailles Elementary.
In conjunction with the Veterans Dinner, a patriotic art contest was held and thank you to Mrs. Ranly and Mrs. Sutter for helping oversee this project. The art projects were displayed at the dinner. The greenhouse management class also made red, white and blue flower arrangements that were given out as door prizes. A special thanks to Nature Reflections-Susan Ballinger for donating the containers that were used for the arrangements.
Active members include Army; Space Force; Haddi Treon represented by Dean and Margie Treon. Veterans of each branch and their spouses were also recognized.
